Umbrella

Don't Umbrellas fascinate you?
Umbrellas come in different sizes, colors and are made up of different material depending on their purpose and use.  Though the use of umbrellas is not unique to humans. You might not believe me on this but animals use natural umbrellas such as leaves to protect themselves from the elements. Humans have adapted the umbrella not just as a functional tool but as also a symbol. In most cultures an umbrella is not just for keeping you dry or shading you from the harsh sun it is a symbol of status and importance.  In Ethiopia, umbrellas were used as a status symbol by Kings, Queens and Noblemen.  The umbrellas used for this purpose are not carried by the individuals themselves but a servant or slave who held the umbrella over them all the time whether they are sitting, walking or are on a back of a Mule. Nowadays we don't have nobility who have umbrellas held over their head but the tradition of having umbrellas for a symbol of reverence is kept by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church which still uses highly decorated umbrellas for its rich processions and services.
