Fort Jesus

Image
Being at Fort Jesus is like stepping back in time to East Africa's history and the pre-colonial years were Europeans were just limited to the costs of Africa. The fort was built by the Portuguese between 1593 and 1596 to control and protect the old port of Mombasa. Through time the fort had fallen to local sultans to Omani Arabs and then to the British who took over Kenya in 1895 by declaring a Protectorate of Kenya.  The different occupants of the fort had made their mark in the fort from wall painting to buildings within the fort.  Being at the fort will also take you back to a time where controlling the east African cost was so important for Portugal and the Omani Arabs in order to preserve their trade interests. For the Portuguese trade with China and India and for the Omani Arabs trade between Arabia and the cost of Africa.

Endless Love

Image
Usually, two madly in love couple go to a bridge or anywhere close to water where there is a place to lock padlocks on. They lock one or two padlocks representing them on a bridge or a fence and throw the key into the water. This is to symbolize their never-ending love for each other. Like the locked padlocks they are bound in love and the key to free them from their bondage has been thrown away out of reach. But who wants to lock a single padlock in a symbol of love and write "I will Love You Endlessly"  and throw the key into the lake? Is it a rejected lover? Is is it a lover who broke up with his love and can not move on? Is it someone who has lost a loved one? Here is a story of a young man madly in love with a girl who doesn't share his love for her. Let us call him the Lover since that is simple and because that is what he is after all. We might even call him The Desperate Lover but that is long and it will make our story longer. So the Lover's love has

Artificial Intelligence

Image
Picture of a Robot sculpture at Seattle Center. It is a metal structure built in the 60s which envisions the typical robot that we all imagine that robots look like. The Robot which has a metal structure in a human form is what comes to mind when we try to visualize robots even though most hardworking robots of today and tomorrow does not look like that.  Today it the beginning of the age of Artificial Intelligence which will develop and program robots of the future.  The age of information and data has given way to a new powerful tool to humanity, Artificial Intelligence. We are already using this form of technology which is in its infancy from search engines to our smartphone face recognition futures. Artificial intelligence is slowly but surely crawling into our lives. Artificial Intelligence is not a physical entity as a mechanical robot or a computer hardware is. It doesn't look like any of the super intelligent robots portrayed in the sci-fi movies. It is more than that it

Joy of Now

Image
The joy of Childhood is genuine. Children do not know how to pretend and make fake smiles. They laugh or cry from their heart. Children are true to their feeling.  They are not yet corrupted by the adult world which is full of pretense. They express their joy and sorrow without reservation without clinging to any of them. They live for the moment they don't care about the past or the future, they just care for the moment and they live it fully. They totally immerse themselves in their plays because life and play are all the same for them. They don't see the difference between their imaginary world and the real world both are the same for them.  Adults should learn from children and start living without clinging to the past or worrying about the future. The past and the future should not make us not live the present fully in any way. We should be mindful of our present, we should live life to the fullest as children do. We cannot look back to the past or into the future withou

Words For My Pictures

Image
I am sure everyone is familiar with the idiom  " A picture is worth a Thousand Words". Though I totally agree with the idiom, I would say why not write a few words to make it even more worth than a thousand words. Here is what I am going to do with this blog. I will write few words about or a story based on the picture that I will be featuring. All pictures that I will be posting will be mine and I will be giving words for my pictures. That is how the title of the blog" Words for My Pictures" came about. I might write about the picture or I might talk how, why, when, where and what I felt when I  took the picture or I might write a story for the picture or story based on the picture. The blog will be open to my feelings and imagination. Whenever I post a picture I would like you too to be involved by taking a moment and study the picture and coming up with the thousand words that it is worth by itsel

Old Lady of Lalibela

Image
This is about an old lady who had seen a lot in her days. She had been a child, a girl, a woman, a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. That doesn't matter anymore now she is just an old lonely woman. What is that she is thinking about? Is it the beauty of her youth or the fate of her Children? Is it about the loss of loved ones and the beautiful old days? Is it the love that she lost years and years ago? Life had been hard on her. Like her, the tree on her background all wrinkled and shrank with age. Like the old dead tree, she will be dead too soon. I wonder if she is worried about or cares about death at all. She is praying with her prayer stick close by but for what is she praying for? Is she really praying or drifting away in nostalgia when she hears the prayer chant of the priests. Chants that she has heard since she was little. Maybe she is doing both cherishing the good old memories and praying to live in paradise after death. I am sure her long years had never bee
